EVENTS

As with all activities in the current environment, details of Choral Boosters (CB) fundraisers and programs inevitably will be influenced — but not entirely dictated — by circumstances beyond our control; the shows will go on! Despite the fact that restrictions on physical proximity significantly impair the harmonic and social camaraderie of singers, Choral Boosters and FCCPS choir teachers are committed to making “virtual” as “real” as possible to keep an infrastructure and relationships in place for the time when students can sing together. Fundraisers and programs may need to be adjusted but will be conducted as safety concerns allow.

FUNDRAISERS

Mickey’s Music Spectacular
This fundraiser quickly has become an annual favorite with the younger FCCPS crowd, featuring high school and middle school students in costume show-casing favorite Disney tunes. Coming in the Halloween season, young audience members are encouraged to wear Disney movie or other costumes as they enjoy their older colleagues entertaining them. Although this year’s concert will be presented virtually, the music will be followed by suggested activities for the little ones, led by the singers. This normally is a ticketed event; this year the video will suggest a donation amount with an easy payment option attached. All funds from this activity support assessment, accompanist and audition fees anticipated later in the school year.

Poinsettia Sale
Anticipating the holiday season, CB is sponsoring a poinsettia sale supplied by a local nursery.  Click here to download an order form and place your order now. The Deadline for mailing in orders and payment is Friday, November 6. The Deadline to order and pay online is Monday, November 9th. Pick up details to follow. Funds will help supply concert attire accessories and other student supplies.

DistanSing
Is your student looking for a break from virtual learning and just wants some fun singing with friends? Ms. Sample and Ms. Carpel are leading two singing opportunities, Mondays and Fridays at 3:30 on the football stadium bleachers (“Visitors bleachers” on the far side.) Students are outdoors, at least 10′ apart and wearing masks to sing in-person. This extracurricular activity is ungraded, unrelated to any school choir and very flexible in content, based on the participants’ interests. Participation waivers must be signed by parents and temperature screening is recorded at each club meeting.

Broadway Desserts
Another annual tradition, Broadway Desserts combines fun music and tasty treats with entertaining musical “acts” presented by high school and middle school students. Circumstances at the time of the concert will determine if the concert is presented virtually or in the Mary Ellen Henderson cafetorium.  If in-person, students will donate desserts served at intermission by CB volunteers.  Normally, this is a ticketed event; if it is necessary to go virtual, a suggested donation and means to donate will be made. All funds will go toward supporting students who audition into District and state chorus and for accompanist fees.

Restaurant Night
Both as a fundraiser and to support local business, CB will schedule a “restaurant night” at a Falls Church City restaurant during the week of April 26-30. In selecting a restaurant, preference will be given to locations that provide outdoor seating and will include carry-out business as part of the fundraiser. Funds will be used for end-of-year student awards and participation gift bags.

PROGRAMS & CONCERTS

Lesson Program
Choral Boosters supports a program of private lessons in voice and piano for students in grades 5-12.  Following a successful first year (despite events which compelled lessons to be virtual), Choral Boosters will again secure instructors, set a reasonable and uniform fee for lessons and secure rehearsal space at FCCPS schools. Parents will pay instructors directly on a monthly basis.  As possible, Choral Boosters will provide shared-cost needs-based financial support for students deemed appropriate and eligible by the three choir teachers. These one-on-one lessons will begin virtual and synchronous with instructors already experienced in long-distance training. Everyone hopes that the lessons will be able to return to in-person status sometime in the second semester.

Winter Pyramid Concert
This year’s three FCCPS Winter Concerts will be combined into one “pyramid” concert show-casing together the choirs at Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Mary Ellen Henderson Middle and George Mason High Schools. While all of the needs for this novel undertaking are not yet known, Choral Boosters will support necessary costs and logistical needs to maintain this important concert tradition.
